Animating People- Character Animation

3d animation- TMBA Inc. has always been the reliable source of 3d animation and broadcast animation for producers working on limited budgets.

An agency (Moxie Media) that was working with the MS Society, found our web site, with many projects that required realistic 3D human forms involved in complex movement. Thanks to our previous work on Discovery Channel’s Stunt Junkies, Forensic Files and Tru TV’s Ultimate Peril, they knew we were the studio for a project they had in the pipeline.

They needed to educate MS patients how easy and how dangerous it is for them to fall. As the strength in their legs diminishes, they begin to walk with a “shuffling” motion. This often leads to falls that can cause serious injury or even death.

The animation you’ll see here is deceptively simple. As a 3D artist that has been doing this for 15 years I can tell you that creating a regular walking motion with a 3D model is difficult enough. Creating a man barely able to lift his feet was
actually extremely challenging.

We were looking to mimic animations that use motion capture technology where real life movements are recorded using live actors/models on a digital stage. The motions are then plugged into computer so they can be applied to a 3D model.

This is the best way to get realistic movements with a 3D character but, it is prohibitively expensive for many production budgets and that certainly was the case for this project.

In the animation seen here, you’ll see that TMBA artists can accomplish a whole lot of lifelike movement, for a whole lot less than motion capture typically costs.

Over 400,000 people have been diagnosed with debilitating MS disease. Helping reduce the number injuries they may experience was something we are proud to have been a part of.
